Benefits of Chiropractic Care & Acupuncture

Prenatal Chiropractic Care

It is very common to experience pain during pregnancy. As your baby grows, your body goes through numerous changes; change in posture, change in your centre of gravity placing more stress on your low back and lower extremity joints, altered gait pattern, and hormonal changes, to name a few, which can cause pain and discomfort. The hormone Relaxin, increases in quantity during pregnancy to help prepare the body for labor. Relaxin causes the loosening of ligaments, which can also lead to discomfort. Through chiropractic care, these feelings of discomfort can be managed. What can chiropractic care help with:

  • Neck and back pain
  •  Pelvic girdle pain
  • Pubic symphysis pain
  • Rib pain
  • Numbness in hands and feet
  • Joint pain
  • Removing the torsion of pelvic ligaments
  • Minimize intra-uterine constraint
  • Ease labor pain
Paediatric Chiropractic Care

Birth is a traumatic event for your baby, especially if birthing interventions need to be used.  A child will benefit from a chiropractic assessment due to the stress the infant’s spine and nervous system goes through during the birth process. A chiropractic assessment can detect these stresses early. As neurological development is extremely important to your growing child, here are important things a parent can look for:

  • Trouble with latch during breastfeeding
  • Persistent head tilt or turning head to one side
  • Torticollis
  • Flat spot on baby's head
  • Colic
  • Digestive issues (constipation)
  • Fussy during tummy time

Chiropractic care is safe and effective for children of all ages. Imagine the amount of force you would push on a ripe tomato, that is all the force needed when adjusting a child.

Webster Technique

This is a specific chiropractic technique use on pregnant individuals to create a balance in pelvic bony structures, muscles and ligaments. This technique is safe and effective for both the mom and baby, with the use of a pregnancy pillow (as seen in the image to the left), mom can lie on her stomach comfortably, with her belly in the cut out portion of the pillow, during treatment. The goal of the Webster technique is to reduce the effects of joint restrictions, specifically in the pelvis, remove torsion of pelvic ligaments; allowing more space for your baby, and to loosen up tight musculature. In doing so neurobiomechanical function in the sacral and pelvic region are improved.
